The RACQ and Excavation Equipment Great Western Road Trip is back for its fifth year!

This amazing family-friendly event will take you exploring through hidden gems of the Darling Downs and our surrounding regions. The route is a secret, the food is included, the activities are planned! All you need is a 4WD and your camping gear and we'll take care of the rest!

Get ready to explore new places, eat amazing local food, meet new people and support an incredibly important cause, as you'll be helping us raise funds for the new Regional Cancer Centre, plus continue to leave an impact in our rural hospitals.

2023 Great Western Road Trip Impact in the Regions

  1. OAKEY
    $25,000* for resident recreational furniture, including a lounge for reading.

  2. DALBY
    $33,500* for a Bladder Scanner and LigaSure Machine.

    $16,951 for a Bladder Scanner, observation/monitoring equipment, plus a CTG machine.

    $16,500* for a Portable Suction Machine and emergency trolley.

    Funding requested for a baby change unit, syringe driver and an oxygen concentrator.

    Funding requested for a projector and smart board digital display.

    $21,075* for anaesthetic carts, pulse oximetry equipment, oxygen concentrators and a CPAP machine.

     $52,000* for a training mannequin, cardiac monitor and IV pumps.
  1. TARA
    $47,000* for a ultrasound machine and video laryngoscope machine.

    Funding requested for furniture, including recliner chairs and dining room tables.

  3. MILES
    $1,215 for a blood collection chair.

    $18,000* for a Bladder Scanner and IV cannulation trolley.

    $7,700* for a mobile HiFlo Suction unit, and oxygen concentrators.

    $15,870 for a ECG machine, and a baby change station.

    $24,000* for a sit and stand aid, an observation machine, and a Bladder Scanner.

*Darling Downs Health is in the process of purchasing these items using funds raised from 2023 GWRT. Dollar amounts are estimates only.

What do I need to pack?

To help get you started on organising your trip with us here’s a list of things you’ll need to pack for a worry-free journey.

Please note that your vehicle MUST be a 4WD.

  • Snacks for the car
  • Small change for fundraising activities along the way
  • Orange flashing light for dust
  • Sleeping bags / swags
  • Stretcher as an option for comfort
  • Tent or tarp
  • Camp chair
  • Esky or a portable camping fridge
  • Handheld UHF radio (this is a MUST bring)
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Thongs for the shower
  • Torch
  • Small first aid kit
  • Spare tyre and jack
  • Water
  • Sturdy footwear
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellent
  • Hat

Our friends from RACQ will also be providing full on-road support for the whole journey for any of those less than stellar moments.

All funds raised will go towards supporting rural patients across the Darling Downs Health Service accessing services at their local hospital as well as help the future development of the Regional Cancer Centre.
