David Batterham, known as the Bloke from Gundy, set out on a 3,000km journey, one powered by personal experience, community connection and a desire to give back.

In just over two weeks, David cycled from Adelaide to Toowoomba, then wheeled a wheelbarrow from Toowoomba to Brisbane.

This great journey fundraised for Toowoomba Hospital Foundation, Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital Foundation and Neuroendocrine Cancer Australia.

Following the loss of his beloved wife, Judi, to endocrine cancer, David's emotional drive for this mission was to honour Judi's memory
and raise awareness about neuroendocrine cancer, a disease that often goes undetected for years.

Reflecting on his journey, David’s heartfelt words encapsulated the emotional drive behind his mission.

“The whole ride was about remembering Judi, because that’s all I have left, memories of Judi”
Toowoomba Hospital Foundation CEO, Jude Wills, expressed her admiration for David’s dedication.

“His riding and running generosity will contribute to our fundraising campaign for Regional Cancer Care across our region.”
David’s journey culminated at Parliament House, where he will advocate for increased resources and specialist care for those living with neuroendocrine cancer in rural Queensland.

This significant stop marks not just the end of his physical journey but also the beginning of a vital conversation about improving access to care for those in need.
