Motorbikes and the dazzling art deco interior of The Empire Theatre played the ultimate backdrop to the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation’s Legends at their Game event as the Garden City welcomed Hollywood actor, comedian, and author Henry Winkler for an evening of storytelling and fundraising.
Widely regarded as the nicest man in Hollywood, Henry Winkler joined over 500 guests on the theatre stage in aid of raising funds for the newly announced Regional Cancer Centre.
Toowoomba Hospital Foundation CEO Alison Kennedy said attendees at this year’s Legends at their Game helped to kick-off what is set to be the Foundation’s biggest-ever fundraising campaign raising over $40,000.
“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who supported us at Legends at their Game and also to Henry Winkler for stopping by Toowoomba on his busy tour schedule,” she said.
“Thanks to the generosity of those who donated on the night, supported the raffles and auctions, and to the wonderful local businesses who committed funds to the cause our final fundraising tally is $40,934.10.
“These funds will go towards the development of a new Regional Cancer Centre which will be located at Baillie Henderson Hospital alongside the new hospital.”
Mrs Kennedy said the Foundation will be focusing their efforts over the next two to five years on raising funds to help turn this vision of a cancer centre into a reality for cancer patients across the Darling Downs.
“We’ve committed to match-funding of $10 million to create a new stand-alone facility which will bring together all the people, equipment, expertise, services and healing environment needed to treat hundreds of people within our community across the Darling Downs.
