Claire makes the big chop in aid of cancer and sick kids

20 Mar 2024
Local 12-year-old Claire Wilson is doing what many others her age wouldn’t even dream of, she has cut her golden long locks all in aid of raising funds in support of the new Regional Cancer Centre.

Not only is she supporting a great cause, but her hair will also be donated to make wigs for sick children.

Remarkably, this isn’t the first time Claire has bravely cut her hair, she did it for the very first time in 2019 raising funds in support of Breast Screen Queensland Toowoomba.

Claire’s big chop took place this week on Monday 18th March at Niko & Okin Salon and her hair measured at 65cm in length, which took her 4 years to grow.

Claire’s Mum, Naomi Wilson said “We’re pretty proud of her. It’s something as a teenager – that association with how you look is really important, and so for someone who’s grown her hair for that long and it being so beautiful, I think it’s remarkable that she can take such a brave cut for a good cause. It really makes a difference when locals get behind fundraisers like this.”

Claire has also smashed her $2,000 fundraising goal by raising a total of $2,264 so far, which will go towards the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation’s Regional Cancer Centre.
