Community raises $117K for local families on their pregnancy journeys

13 Mar 2024

Our region’s women and their families at all stages of their pregnancy and gynaecology care will soon be greeted with warm, inviting, and modern waiting rooms at the Toowoomba Hospital Antenatal and Gynaecology Clinics with thanks to support from the local community raising $117,393.06 as part of the 2023 Toowoomba Hospital Christmas Appeal.

Each year Toowoomba Hospital Foundation launches its Toowoomba Hospital Christmas Appeal to raise funds for an area in the hospital most in need, whether it be life-saving medical equipment, upgrades to a current facility or service or to bring extra comfort to patients.

Toowoomba Hospital Foundation CEO Alison Kennedy said last year the Foundation launched their annual Appeal in November with many local businesses, organisations and individuals getting behind the cause.

“We love doing our appeals every year because it gives our community the chance to really get behind a cause that helps create a powerful impact on so many patients and their families who access Toowoomba Hospital,” she said.

“In 2023, with consultation with Darling Downs Health, we set out to raise as much funds as we could for the Toowoomba Hospital Antenatal and Gynaecology clinics so that we could help freshen up their waiting rooms.

“And thanks to our wonderful community, local businesses, and organisations we’re very excited to announce that you raised an incredible $117,393.06!

“These funds will go towards updating waiting rooms and family areas in both clinics. For many women and families visiting the clinics, it can be a very stressful and often clinical environment, so it would be absolutely amazing to be able to create spaces with comfy seating and an area to distract the kids while you wait.”

Each year over 2,000 babies are born at Toowoomba Hospital, with many of those families starting their pregnancy journey with the Antenatal and Gynaecology clinics.
