How to Make the Most of Your EOFY Donation (And Why It Matters)

02 Jun 2025
As the end of financial year approaches, it’s a great time to consider how you can make a real impact — not just for your community, but for your own tax return. Donations to registered charities like the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation are generally tax-deductible, and every dollar goes toward making healthcare better for the Darling Downs region.

What does “tax-deductible” actually mean?

When you make a donation over $2 to a registered charity with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status — like THF — your gift can be subtracted from your taxable income. This reduces the amount of tax you need to pay at the end of the financial year.

What donations qualify?

Sander Partners, one of our trusted local supporters, helped us break it down. Tax-deductible donations include:

  • One-off donations

  • Automatic donations (e.g. monthly gifts)

  • Donations to emergency appeals

  • Corporate sponsorships

  • Gifts like money, property or shares

To qualify, donations must be genuine gifts with no tangible benefits to the donor.

For instance, automatic monthly donations to a charity are eligible for tax deductions, whereas the purchase of raffle tickets is not. You also cannot claim charity merchandise or a gala event ticket as a donation.

If you’re uncertain about whether your chosen charity qualifies as a DGR and can receive tax-deductible gifts, use the Australian Business Register’s ABN (Australian Business Number) Lookup tool to find a comprehensive list of all DGR charities. The Toowoomba Hospital Foundation is a DGR.

What do I need to claim my deduction?

All you need is your donation receipt — and you’re good to go when it’s time to lodge your return. (And yes, we email those straight to your inbox after your donation.)

Why now?

The Toowoomba Hospital Foundation is raising funds for the Regional Cancer Centre — a one-stop centre for patients to receive treatment in a purpose-built space, close to the people and places they love.

Every dollar you give will help build this facility — and 100% of your tax-deductible donation goes directly to the cause.

Plus, if you give before June 30, you may be eligible to claim it in this year’s return.

Your kindness is tax-deductible.
Your impact is life-changing.
